utvactionMovie buffs in the South are going to have more action on their television sets soon. UTV, which launched Action channel in Hindi last year, would come out with its regional variants. To begin with, it would launch one in Telugu next week with a library of 250 Hollywood action movies.

Mr M. K. Anand, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), UTV Broadcast (Entertainment), said the channel promised to air Telugu premiers of Hollywood movies within three months of their Indian premier.

"After Telugu, we will launch Tamil. With regard to Kannada, we need to resolve some issues there on the release of dubbed content. We hope to resolve it soon. We will add two more channels by the end of this financial year, including a Bollywood entertainment channel," he told Business Line from Mumbai ahead of the launch of its Telugu channel launch.

Asked why action movies and not romance, comedy or humour, Mr Anand said action movies contained fewer dialogues and more action, a universal language.

After South, the TV firm, with a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore, would launch Action channels in Bangla and Punjabi. As of now, it runs four channels.

The entertainment arm, which produces 7-10 movies every year, contributed about Rs 500 crore to the company's turnover last year, while the broadcasting division chipped in with Rs 350 crore. The Studio business, which did outsourced production work, contributed Rs 150 crore, Mr Anand said.
