The Star Network announced today that it will formally launch its second Kannada GEC Suvarana Plus on July 14. Industry sources say that test signal of the channel are already on and that the network is in talks with major MSOs' for carriage of the channel. Initially, Suvarana Plus will be available digitally on cable in Bangalore and Mysore and on analog in the rest of the state. Availability of the channel on the DTH and IPTV platforms are a while away as yet.
Asianet Communications MD K Madhavan says, "Karnataka has been a key market for us, we are buoyant and see huge potential in the Kannada television space. Suvarna has been offering wholesome family entertainment to Kannada homes and is the leader in prime time. Suvarna Plus is our new offering which will have a new perspective in terms of entertainment. Both these channels will have distinctive content offering. With the launch of Suvarna Plus we intend to increase our dominance in Kannada GEC market."
"Masthi Swalpa Jaasthi" (Just a little more entertainment, mischief) is the tagline of Suvarna Plus, and the channel says that this tagline captures a basic tendency of humans to get 'A bit more' in everything and it promises the viewer of 'something extra' in terms of entertainment.
