Mounting financial losses forced an Indian owner of a Dubai-based Malayalam TV station to flee from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) leaving his employees in disarray.
“We had not been paid for months but in the hope of a turnaround the dozen odd staffers lumbered on. Nobody expected the end to come so soon,” a senior staff told Gulf News.
Despite the TV channel's office on 2nd December street in Jumeirah 1 remaining non-functional, the channel is still broadcasting programmes. Operations of the channel’s Kochi unit are, however, halted, the report said.

Two of Sri Lanka's major cable TV operators, Dialogue and SLT, have removed controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik's Peace TV from their channel list.
The move came after the deadly Easter Sunday bombings which killed at least 250 people. However, the Sri Lankan government hasn't banned the controversial Peace TV.
Previously, India and Bangladesh had banned the channel founded by Zakir Naik.
Sony Yay recently turned two and claimed to have grown twofold in both viewership as well as market share. The channel now has plans to add regional feeds.
“As we already have seven languages in our bouquet, we have plans to add more in the near future,” said Sony Yay programming head Ronojoy Chakraborty. Not only this, but the channel’s plan is to also curate content primarily for the digital platforms. “We are planning a lot of content for digital platforms. We are planning short forms, shows and spinoffs of the characters that we already have. We are building our content that is only meant for digital,” he added.
