Asianet to launch Malayalam movie channel on 15 July
Star-owned Asianet Communications is set to launch on 15 July the first satellite movie channel in Malayalam.
Asianet Movies, a free-to-air channel, will be available in India, Gulf and other countries.
In Kerala, the channel will available through all major cable TV operators including ACV and COA. It will also be on other leading DTH platforms, a senior official in Asianet says on condition of anonymity.

Jaya TV stirs up TV rights market for Tamil movies
Jaya TV and a few other rivals of Tamil television leader Sun TV are making a hitherto-unseen charge toward bagging the TV rights for big-ticket Tamil movies, for long the preserve of the Kalanithi Maran-owned Sun TV. This has not only opened up the market but also pushed up rates.
Jaya TV, the mouthpiece of the ruling AIADMK party and a distant rival to Sun TV, has virtually stirred up the market in the past few days by bagging two top titles. Last week, it acquired the rights for the upcoming Rajnikanth-starrer 'Kochadaiyaan.' On Monday, it bought another big-ticket movie--the upcoming Suriya-starrer 'Maatraan.'

Pakistani channel to air Sur Kshetra
Pakistan's leading network Geo TV will air musical reality show Sur Kshetra simultaneously with Indian Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) Sahara One and Colors. This is the first time that a channel in Pakistan will air a show together with Indian channels.
The reality show, produced by Gajjendra Singh, showcases talent from India and Pakistan.
A week ago, the deal between the Indian rival channels was sealed and announced. Initially, there were suggestions that the show would air on the Star network. However, that didn't work out.
Star Plus HD launches in UK on Sky platform
Star TV UK, a subsidiary of Star India, has launched Star Plus HD on the Sky DTH platform, making it the first Asian HD channel to broadcast in the UK.
Star Plus HD is a simulcast version of the Star Plus SD feed.

A new regional player - Gowdha TV network
A new regional TV-network in South India is currently testing on Intelsat 17 (66 degree East): 3894, H, SR 13840 and fec 5/6 - free-to-air. The company is Gowdha Communications PVT. LTD. It is a broadcasting company which is launching News & Infotainment Television Channels in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages.
The channels are called, Jai Tamil TV, Jai Malayalam TV, Jai Telugu TV and Jai Kannada TV.
