A new Tamil radio station has launched in Sri Lanka. The new station, called "Tamil FM", has recently begun transmission on 99.5 FM and 99.7 FM and is branded as "the one & only Tamil youth radio in Sri Lanka".

Four new Tamil channels, called Update TV, Update News, Udate Music and Update Kids, have started free-to-air on Intelsat 17 (66 degree East): 3845, Vertical, SR 28800 and fec 5/6. The company behind the new network is KCP Engineers Pvt. Ltd.
There is currently no website, facebook or youtube channel for these channels yet.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) today updated its database with the renaming of multiple existing satellite TV channels. MIB has given the green light to TV9 Network to launch TV9 Tamil apart from nod for ND: Newsdaily24.in and Channel 36 UP/UK.
TV9 Network held ‘News9’ license has been renamed to TV9 Tamil. The broadcaster had last year shuttered down News9 to focus on a digital-only English News channel post which the TV license remained idle. The broadcaster has been testing TV9 Tamil on multiple MSOs in Tamil Nadu for quite some time now.

Chennai headquartered Mantaro Network which runs Tamil News channel "News J" has got permission from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) to launch and operate another News channel called "News J2". The Ministry granted the satellite TV license in January month to Mantaro Network.
The company got the nod from the Ministry on 17th December, 2020 to operate ‘News J2’ from Intelsat 17 on Tata Communications teleport services. The channel will be the second Tamil News channel from the network with the Ministry granting the license under ‘News’ category to Mantaro Network. Already the company is running the news channel "News J".
