focustvkannadaThe Indian media will never let go of an opportunity to milk the most of the country's favourite event - elections. Channels know that it is a time when people switch over from other genres to news.

The Karnataka Assembly election 2018 is just around the corner and many broadcasters have recently launched new Kannada news channels to not miss out on the event. However, even national channels are cashing in. A bunch of channels was all launched in the last couple of months including iTV network’s NewsX Kannada, Focus group’s Focus TV Kannada and Swaraj express SMBC’s Swaraj Express Kannada.

ibctamilIBC Tamil TV, which was launched in UK in 2015, and is telecasting from its studio in London, has expanded its service to the "capital" of the homeland of Eelam Tamils, Jaffna. Already some programmes were produced by IBC Tamil in Sri Lanka since the launch in 2015 - for example Vanakkam Thainadu and the serial, Marma Kulal.
Even if IBC has an office in Colombo and a production team in Jaffna, it was missing a headquater for all its activities to produce high quality programmes from Sri Lanka to diaspora Tamils. That wish came true with the opening of IBC Tamil Jaffna studio in January 2018. At the opening ceremony the owner of IBC Tamil, Kandiah Baskaran, told the guests that soon IBC Tamil TV would be available in Jaffna too. Yesterday IBC Tamil TV was launched in Sri Lanka through TV Lanka Digital TV package on DVB-T.

suntvIn the late eighties, a scrawny young man returned to India from the US having completed his MBA from the University of Scranton. He had lights in his eyes, fascinated as he had become by television in the US during his management freshman and graduation days.

But television in India was a domain restricted to only state-owned Doordarshan. For a while, he dabbled in the print media that his family owned but the lure of the moving image proved too strong. So, he did the next best thing: he started producing a video magazine in Tamil.

dishtvDespite having substantial share across all markets in South India, direct-to-home (DTH) operator Dish TV is currently focusing on Tamil Nadu as the market there affords a big pay TV opportunity. Moreover, the state is also going through digitisation, which has created more avenues for DTH players to increase their subscriber base in the state.

Recently, Dish TV announced a plan to come up around 30 popular Tamil channels on its platform with an aim to leave customers with wider choice. In an interaction with, Dish TV India SVP marketing Sukhpreet Singh said that Tamil Nadu has always been important for the company and is one of the top markets for the company.

jiotvJioHomeTV, this is one of the upcoming services from the high-flying telecom operator Reliance Jio. As per the available information, Reliance Jio will offer Standard-Definition (SD) channels at Rs 200 and SD+HD channels at Rs 400, but what’s this service actually? Is it the Jio DTH service which was rumoured for a long time as ‘Will Be Launched Soon?’ And we don’t think that the JioHomeTV service is the much-hyped Jio DTH service as we confirmed the same via the company’s customer care team, local Reliance Digital Stores. So, it’ safe to assume that Jio DTH service is not going to launch anytime soon.
