Sun TV Network chairman and managing director Kalanithi Maran has emerged as the richest media person from India with a net worth of $3.5 billion. Maran stays ahead of Essel Group chairman and founder of Zee network Subhash Chandra, according to Forbes magazine's list of billionaires.
Maran occupies the 310th spot in the Forbes rich list, ahead of Chandra and family who are ranked No. 393 with a net worth of $2.9 billion.
The Times Group chairman Indu Jain takes the No. 440 position with assets valued at $2.6 billion.
Anil Ambani, who has business interests ranging from telecom to energy and media among others, is, however, way ahead. With $8.8 billion, he ranks No. 103 internationally and eighth in India.
