Arasu Cable to go digital in the city
Setting a subscriber base target of one crore this year, Arasu Cable Corporation is all set to go digital in the city.
"The subscriber base of the government-owned cable corporation has increased to 49.53 lakh as on April 30, 2012 from 4.94 lakh in September 2, 2011. The operator base is 21,123 now," Mukkur N. Subramanian, Information Technology Minister, said in the Assembly on Monday, in his reply to the discussion on the demands for grants for the department.
Arasu Cable subscriber base jumps 10-times in six months
The Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation, the State-run cable television services provider, is set to launch digital service in Chennai soon.
Arasu Cable's subscriber base has grown ten times in six months to over 49.53 lakh as of April 2012. Over 21,123 operators are extending the Arasu Cable's programmes to the viewers.
The services of the cable television provider, which was launched in October 2007, were rejuvenated in September 2011. The objective was to offer quality services at an affordable price. Private cable television operators will be able to charge viewers Rs 70 a month and pay Arasu Cable Rs 20 per subscriber.

STAR expands Ok brand with a new movie channel
India's largest broadcaster, STAR India, has extended the newly launched 'Ok' brand beyond the Hindi general entertainment segment (GEC) with the launch of a new movie channel, 'Movies Ok'. As with 'Life Ok', conceived and developed to compete with market leader STAR Plus, Movies Ok will slug it out for eyeballs with STAR Gold in the Hindi movie category.
MCCS unveils new logo
After the exit of Star, Media Content and Communcations Services (MCCS) has rebranded its bouquet of channels with ABP as the mother brand.
MCCS said Monday the on-air launch of the rebranded news channels - ABP News in Hindi (earlier Star News), ABP Ananda in Bengali (earlier Star Ananda) and ABP Majha in Marathi (earlier Star Majha) - will be effective 1 June.
SRM Group expanding small screen presence
The SRM Group is expanding its presence in the small screen with a new general entertainment and news channel.
Vendar TV is expected to go on air on August 25, according to the group's Chairman, Mr Ravi Pachamoothoo. (Vendar means 'king' in Tamil).
"Apart from providing entertainment content, Vendar TV will also focus on positive news. There is so much of negativity in most of the channels. We want to change that," Mr Pachamoothoo told Business Line.
