TV18, Viacom18 form new JV
TV18 and Viacom18 have formed a strategic joint venture, IndiaCast, which will distribute all channels and content of the two companies in India and abroad.
IndiaCast will also distribute Eenadu channels, post completion of acquisition by the TV18 group.
The Sun TV group channels and Disney Channels will also be distributed by IndiaCast in the Hindi Speaking Markets (HSM).
Maran pledges shares worth Rs 94 cr in Sun TV
The media-tycoon Kalanithi Maran has pledged shares worth around Rs 94 crore in Sun TV Network Ltd, the media company which is promoted by Maran.
"The pledging comes as a top up to an earlier pledging of around 7% shares from the company as security to a consortium of banks for loan extended to a group company, Sun DTH, the DTH arm of Sun TV," according to company's senior official.
Sun TV profit falls on Arasu re-launch
Sun TV Network Ltd's fourth-quarter profit slumped 24% from a year earlier because of the revival of state-run Arasu Cable Corp. Ltd, a decline in ad revenue and a slump in its movie business.
Profit fell to Rs.159.03 crore in the three months ended 31 March from Rs.208.34 crore a year ago and was in line with the Rs.160.58 crore estimated in a Bloomberg poll of analysts. Income from operations fell 7.3% to Rs.427.07 crore from Rs.460.50 crore, in line with expectations of Rs.426.75 crore.
Tamil Gov't Starts Radio Broadcast to Sri Lanka on May 18th - 3rd Anniversary of Tamil Genocide
"The first special broadcast will be on May 18th (Friday), for one hour from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, Sri Lanka time."
Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE)* today announced that it will start broadcasting Radio News to the Island of Sri Lanka starting from May 18, 2012; the 3rd anniversary of the Genocide of Tamils by the Sri Lankan Government forces.
The Tamil Government's Radio called Naatham will broadcast in shortwave frequency. This Radio can also be heard in India, Malaysia and Singapore where large number of Tamils live. While this broadcast will become a bridge between the Tamil diaspora and the Tamils living in Tamil homeland, it will also play a role of politically and emotionally link Tamils worldwide.
High court respite for Sakshi Telugu daily and Sakshi TV
Justice B Seshasayana Reddy of the AP high court on Thursday suspended the recent GO issued by the state government stopping advertisements to Sakshi Telugu daily and Sakshi TV.
The judge made this interim order after hearing two petitions filed by Jagati Publications which prints Sakshi and Indira Television, the operator of Sakshi TV. The government cited the guidelines as envisaged by the GO MS No 403, issued in 1992, in support of its decision to withhold advertisements to Sakshi. However, the decision of the state in this regard was contrary to the very guidelines, the judge said.
