That there is a political-promoter-news channel nexus in the South of India is something that we have been aware for quite sometime. In all the four states-Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala - hardly a day goes by without the politician promoters using her/his media vehicle as a mouthpiece. After money and muscle, it's media's turn across South for politicos who seem to have gained mastery over the game. For them, the news channel appears to be the strongest weapon to run the political business.
9XM relaunches in UK on Sky
9XM, the Bollywood music channel from the 9X Media stable, is relaunching in the UK on 14 February, a top executive confirmed.
The channel is reentering the UK market after a gap of two years and has signed on World Media Connect to handle its sales and marketing for the channel.
The free-to-air channel will be available on the Sky Digital platform Channel No 851.
Govt suspends SS TV for a week from mid-Feb
SS Music channel, renamed as SS TV, has been suspended for seven days from 15 to 22 February and transmission or retransmission of the channel on any platform throughout India.
The central government passed this order following the order of 28 November last by the Division Bench of the Madras High Court validating the suspension of the South India-based SS Music Channel.
TV9 scouts for investors, needs Rs 4 bn to expand
Hyderabad-based Associated Broadcasting Company Ltd (ABCL), which runs a clutch of regional news channels, has mandated Edelweiss Capital to find an investor that also includes complete exit from the business if the valuation is right.
ABCL has a fund requirement of Rs 4 billion to launch news channels in Tamil for the Chennai market, Oriya and Hindi for the National Capital Region (NCR). The plan is to expand its fleet of channels to nine.
