New TV channels in the works
Both STAR India and Viacom 18 are preparing to launch a number of channels between next week and the year-end.
First up are two movie channels from STAR and one of these could be launched as soon as the end of next week, according to sources. These would cater to the action genre, in English and Hindi. STAR India is to also relaunch STAR One as STAR Desh by early next year.
Viacom 18 has readied its global comedy channel, Comedy Central, that airs original and syndicated content, for India launch. It is also slated to introduce a channel for teenagers and young adults under its Nickelodeon brand, whose flagship channel caters to children.
Sri Lanka state network enlists Harris for switch to digital TV
State broadcaster Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) has contracted Harris Broadcast Communications to provide it with DVB-T2 transmission equipment as the South Asian nation migrates from analogue to digital terrestrial television.
The contract involves a number of Harris Maxiva ULX UHF transmitters to support eight over the air digital channels for SLRC. Targeted DVB-T2 channel insertions in specific regions will also allow the network to retain local as well as national broadcasts.
"The Harris DVB-T2 platform will provide SLRC with a complete and simple solution to implement their digital TV services in the short term without the need for an immense investment in resources," said Said Bacho, vice president, sales and service, Middle East and South Asia, Harris Broadcast Communications.

The First Ever Zee Telugu Kutumbam Awards 2011 to go on air on Oct 30, 6pm onwards
What a star studded night it was! For the first time ever Zee Telugu hosted the 'Zee Telugu Kutumbam Awards 2011' to felicitate its most loved TV characters.
The spectacular event happened on Oct 18, 2011 and was a grand success. There were a lot of known star faces around from the Telugu Entertainment industry; stalwarts like K Raghavendra Rao (Cine Director), Dasari Narayana Rao (Cine Director & Producer), A Kodanda Rami Reddy (Cine Director), Boyapati Srinivas (Cine Director), V Sagar (President, Telugu Film Director's Association), Raja Vannem Reddy (Cine director), Manchu Lakshmi, Sai Kumar etc. besides artists from all Zee Telugu properties were seen at the event.

Suvarna takes second season of reality show to Andaman Islands
Suvarna TV, the Kannada entertainment channel from Star Network, is taking the second season of its reality show Pyate Mandi Kadige Bandru (City Folks Come to Forest) to the Andaman Islands. The first season was shot at Karntaka's Dandeli forest near a village on the river Kali.
The second season of the show will premiere on 31 October and will air every Monday to Friday at 8 pm. The channel has once again roped in actor and dancer Akul Balaji to anchor the show.
As per the channel, the Andaman Island's form the main attraction of the reality show.The Jarawa tribes, one of the oldest Adivasi communities of these islands; the Circular Jail, resembling a pigeon home, built during the British regime; uncertain whether conditions; thick forests facing the beaches... all these form a backdrop for the reality show.
