UTV Action in major movie syndication deal with WB
UTV Action, the dubbed Hollywood action movie channel from the UTV Group, has entered into a multi-year movie syndication deal with Warner Brothers International Television Distribution that adds a significant number of movie premieres to both UTV Action and UTV Action Telugu's library.
The two-year deal involves a minimum of 60 movies for UTV Action and 50 titles for UTV Action Telugu.
"We have signed a long term deal with WB, which has a minimum commitment of 60 movies for UTV Action and 50 movies for UTV Action Telugu. It is a two-year deal with option of renewal. It gives us exclusive Hindi and Telugu language rights of the movies of WB," UTV Action and UTV Action Telugu programming head Manasi Sapre told Indiantelevision.com.

DTH to Sun Direct: Maran's role under CBI scanner
After his alleged involvement in the 2G scam and leasing of telephone lines, former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran's 'role' in sanctioning of spectrum to Sun Direct is now being looked into by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The agency had sought the files from Department of Telecommunications related to spectrum allocation made to direct-to-home (DTH) broadcasters by seeking details of sanction of bandwidth.
The decision to probe the DTH broadcasters was taken after agency sleuths found that some of the telecom companies, under probe in the 2G scam, were also broadcasters of the service, official sources said.

DD's DTH expansion will not need new satellite
Doordarshan will not need to shift to another satellite for augmenting its DD Direct Plus DTH platform to 150 channels in the first phase by the end of this year.
DD sources told indiantelevision.com that efforts were on to increase the capacity of the existing transponders and, thus, DD may at the most need one more transponder on the same satellite - Insat 4A.
Early last month, Prasar Bharati approved the expansion to 250 channels, encouraged by the success of the e-auction of the slots on the free-to-air DD Direct Plus. This will be done in two stages: 150 channels by December 2011 and another 100 channels in the next calendar year. This figure includes the slots for which e-auctions were held.
