Suvarna announces 3rd edition of Kannada Film Awards
The Star Network's Kannada offering, Suvarna, announced the third edition of Suvarna Film Awards 2011. The event will be held on June 25 and will be aired on the channel in August.
Over 132 Kannada films were released in 2010. A four-member jury headed by veteran producer-director-actor Dwarakish, national award-winning actress Tara, writer Jogi and director Milan Prakash are currently viewing and analysing the 150 nominations which are in fray for the awards to select the winners.
Awards will be presented in 29 categories, besides five special awards which will be selected by the viewers and film goers' popular choice.

Jayalalithaa guns for Maran's Sun TV
Apparently targeting Maran brothers' media empire, especially Sun TV, the newly-formed Jayalalithaa government in Tamil Nadu today announced its decision to nationalise private cable TV operations in the state and revive the state-run Arasu Cable TV Corporation.
In his customary address spelling out AIADMK government's policies, Governor S S Barnala said there has been an "overwhelming demand" from the public for revival of Arasu Cable TV Corporation and government would do so "in public interest."
Private cable TV operations will be nationalised without affecting local cable operators, Barnala said.
The move is apparently directed at the Sumangali cable Vision (SCV) owned by Marans (Union Minister Dayanidhi and his brother Kalanidhi) which dominates the multi-crore cable TV business.
Sun TV tanks as Dayanidhi faces the heat
Sun TV shares, once the jewel in the crown of media stocks, took an unprecedented battering amid reports that Union textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran, brother of owner Kalanithi Maran, would be questioned by the CBI in the irregularities of licences during his past stint as the communications minister.
The stock hit a 52-week low on the bourses on Thursday and lost around Rs 40.25 billion in market capitalisation, despite showing a sparkling financial performance in the fiscal ended 31 March 2011.
Sun TV shares tanked 31 per cent to hit a low of Rs 260.10 but recovered mildly to close at Rs 272.10 on the BSE.
Star Plus expands distribution in Holland
Star TV network is increasing its reach in Mainland Europe. The company has launched its flagship Hindi general entertainment channel, Star Plus, on Holland's second largest cable platform, UPC Nederland.
With this launch, UPC has strengthened its Asian television entertainment offering to the South Asian diaspora in Holland.
Star claims that it is the most distributed South Asian network in the UK and Mainland Europe.
Earlier this year, Star channels also were launched on other cable and IPTV platforms in Europe such as CAIWAY and Glashart in Holland and You See in Denmark.
