Sun TV to up ad rates from 1 April
Catching the signals of a strong rebound in the Indian economy, Sun TV Network has decided to increase its advertising rates just five quarters after its earlier revision.The Kalanithi Maran-owned South Indian media conglomerate, which had increased it advertising rates starting 1 January last year (after a gap of almost two years), has announced a further 8-32 per cent hike across its Tamil channels.
Effective 1 April, flagship channel Sun TV and the other Tamil channels - KTV, Sun Music, Sun News, Chutti and Adhitya - will hike their ad rates.
NDTV eyes investor in MetroNation Chennai
NDTV Ltd. is planning to induct strategic investors in its loss-making joint venture company, MetroNation Chennai Television Limited, that operates a news cum infotainment channel.MetroNation Chennai Television also plans to increase the Tamil content on the channel.
"We are considering getting strategic investment in MetroNation Chennai Television. We are looking at raising equity capital. We are also going to increase the Tamil content in the channel," said NDTV Group chief executive officer KVL Narayan Rao.
Kalaignar TV says Cineyug loan not linked to 2G spectrum
Kalaignar TV on Friday denied any link between the Rs.200 crore loan it got from Cineyug Communications and the 2G spectrum allocation.
The Tamil television channel is promoted by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's wife and daughter.
However, AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa on Friday insisted the two were linked and Karunanidhi and his family should be included in the 2G spectrum scam case as co-accused.
Kalaignar TV managing director Sharad Kumar said in a statement: "There is no connection between the loan deal the company signed in 2009 with Cineyug and the 2G spectrum allocation made in 2007-2008."
According to him, in 2009 Cineyug gave some money as advance towards the acquisition of stakes in Kalaignar TV.
"Owing to the differences in valuation of the shares of two companies, a sum of Rs.200 crore received till August 2009 was considered as a loan and was paid back by Kalaignar TV alongwith an interest of Rs.31 crore," he said.
Kumar also said the transaction was reported to the income tax department and the relevant tax had been paid. The whole transaction was within law, he claimed.
Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu and daughter Kanimozhi are the major promoters of the company that owns the Kalaignar TV channel.
In a statement on Friday, Jayalalithaa said there were links between the 2G spectrum alocation and the Rs.200 crore loan Cineyug gave Kalaignar TV.

Sun TV takes a beating
Company issues statement that it has no association with Kalaignar TV.The shares of Sun TV Network Ltd, which has a dominant presence in the four South Indian states, took a beating in the capital markets on Monday, forcing the company to come out with a clarification that it is not associated with Kalaignar TV, owned by the family of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi.
The market frenzy in the counter could be judged from the fact that on the NSE, 1.04 crore shares were traded on Monday, accounting for a staggering value of Rs 430.15 crore.
Maa TV launches 2 new channels
Hyderabad-based Telugu TV network Maa TV Network has launched a movie and a kids channel today.
Maa Movies and Maa Junior started beaming from 7 pm onwards.
With this launch, Maa TV Network now has four channels under its umbrella. It already operates Telugu general entertainment channel Maa TV and music channel Maa Music.
