nationaltvoftamileelamNational Television of Tamil Eelam (NTT), which was launched from Tamil Eelam on 26.03.2005, by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The channel was telecasted live through TTN Tamil TV from Paris through satellite in Europe, Middle East and North Africa at that time. In August the channel also started to telecast for some hours through satellite in South-East Asia under the name "TCP" (Tamil Cultural Programmes). Due to the civil war in Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan military's attacks the channel was forced to close down for a period. 

ottplayersIn India, content is king and over-the-top (OTT) players are increasingly dishing out programming to audiences in their local flavour, moving beyond the Hindi and English speaking segment. As developments in these frontier markets gain momentum, Tamil has emerged as an obvious choice. Some domestic players have already planted a flag in this domain over the last couple of years, and now, the deep-pocket streaming colossuses are also moving in.

Disney+Hotstar, which started focusing on regional content since 2019, recently revealed its first Tamil original content slate, including feature films. A few days before that, Amazon Prime Video announced nine direct-to-digital premieres, and two of these big ticket releases are in Tamil language.

suntvMedia tycoon Kalanithi Maran-owned broadcaster Sun TV is planning to invest around Rs 300-400 crore in the movie business and another Rs 200 crore in SunNxt, the company's OTT platform.

With gradual opening of theatres in the short term, Sun TV is planning to push the pedal in the movies business.

During the analyst call, company's management said that they would be investing in some big ticket movies, which will feature actors including Rajanikanth, Dhanush, Suriya and Vijay among others. Sun is planning for eight big budget movie releases starting from January 2021 till next Diwali.

zeenetworkAfter a three-month-long drought of fresh television content, Hindi general entertainment channels have recently resumed broadcasting new episodes of their popular shows. Zee Entertainment Enterprises, Viacom18, Star India and Sony Pictures Networks have begun airing two to three hours of new content daily during prime time. Broadcasters had started airing original episodes of regional shows since late May, in markets like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Odisha.

Broadcasters are now faced with the uphill task of wooing advertisers back to their channels, without any significant freebies or discounts.

zeetamilComplying with the directives issued by the Tamil Nadu State government, Zee Tamil has resumed shoots of the fiction shows. The viewers of Zee Tamil can expect original content and hit the resume button on the journeys of their favourite characters from 27 July.

As an initiative to spread cheer and positivity among their viewers, Zee Tamil has also launched a digital and on-air comeback campaign with the tagline ‘Idhaythal inaivom, idhaiyum kadapom’– which translates to - if we come together in spirit, this too shall be overcome.

ithazhtntrOn July 10th around 08.15 TNTR (Tamil Network TV & Radio) is launching their live Ithazh TNTR Radio and Ithazh TNTR TV on their website www.ithazhtntr.media. Currently Ithazh TNTR has been broadcasting some recorded programmes through their Facebook page, but from July 10th they are launching a website for listeners and viewers. Ithazh TNTR is operating from France and is run by Anusuja Anantharooban, who is a very wellknown presenter who has worked for the popular TTN Tamil TV from Paris until the channel was forced to close down in May 2007.

mipThe Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry has proposed bringing under its purview the contents being streamed on the several over-the-top (OTT) platforms, said a top ministry official said on Tuesday. At present, OTT platforms that are digitally streamed falls under the domain of the Ministry of Information and Technology (IT). "OTT being a digital platform will fall under the purview of the Ministry of IT but now we are proposing a decision that the content should fall within the purview of I&B ministry," said Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Amit Khare.
